Photos and fabrications in Edinburgh this week
Talented Fife photographer Kevin McCollum (above) is among those featured in The Photographers Collective exhibition starting tomorrow 1 August at Captain Taylor’s Coffee House, Edinburgh. Other photographers taking part include Albie Clark, Jon Lee, Susie Lowe, Paul Cowan and Susan Richards. Viewing hours are 9am – 12pm Monday-Sunday with the exhibition continuing until 31 August.
Elsewhere in Edinburgh, at Studio One in Stafford Street to be precise, there’s an interestng new exhibition of up and coming designer makers. Opening day on Thursday also features a tempting offer of Pimms and cake. Ceramicist Lara Scobie creates simple yet exquisitely formed bowls, jugs and vases. Fabric florist, Ruth Burgon of Rag Rose, draws her inspiration from vintage textiles, history of art, costume dramas and British wildflowers. Eleanor Caie creates slip cast and hand carved tea lights and lamps while Kirsty Anderson of A Wooden Tree brings your granny’s linen closet to life by recycling found fabrics into plush pieces, accessories and art, including her ever-popular stag heads. Illustrator Victoria Fifield of Hipster Spinster combines hand drawn elements with digital techniques and collage and textile designer Emma Lamb creates home-ware pieces such as crochet granny cushions, throws, flower garlands and pin cushions.
The exhibition runs until 31 August.
