Mussels Cooked in Ale and Bacon Scottish Mussels are plentiful, cheap and sustainable, as well as being easy to cook. The eccentric characters in these photos by Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi illustrate her love of ‘a combination of darkness and humour’. From Friday 4 March FSC will open on Friday evenings until 9pm and the bar will be selling wines, beers and a few select cocktails. Customers can also buy meat, fish and cheese sharing platters by chef Stuart Hazel.
Fire Station Creative, Dunfermline launches their next exhibition this Saturday, 20 February, which will showcase the work of two artists, Su Grierson and Kyra Clegg from Methven, Perthshire and Newburgh, Fife respectively. ‘Land of the Living’ is the title of their collaborative project in which they represent social aspects of the Scottish landscape with video, images and sound. Three years ago photographer Caroline Trotter was driving past fish sheds in St Andrews and saw local fisherman Jim Buttercase (above) sitting amongst the nets. She persuaded him to have his portrait taken and that was how Caroline’s series of portraits of Fife fisherman began.
