Day trips from Edinburgh; daycations from the Festival

Beautiful as the city of Edinburgh is, you may still want to venture out of the centre, especially during the Festival in August when everywhere is full to bursting.  During August Avocado Sweet will be bringing you some ideas to avoid the crowds as part of its day trip column.  Our first trip is to Portobello, written by Portobello resident Claire Simpson.  Originally from Edinburgh, Claire moved back from her publishing job in London and has grown to love Portobello during the five years she has lived there.  Our next trip will be to South Queensferry, taking in one of the world’s most famous landmarks, the Forth Rail Bridge.

“Dunkeld! How do I love thee? Let me count the ways- how much space do we have?
Seriously this always pleasant litle town has just got better and better. New shops have appeared in the High St. more places to eat – with a dazzling array of choices
in the Delicatessen . Time taken for a visit now will certainly delight.
