If you are looking for a hotel room in central London during 2012 perhaps you could consider a boat perched on the Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof. Bookings can be made from 8 September 2011 for the first half of 2012.  The temporary installation, A Room for London was commissioned by Living Architecture and Artangel, in association with South Bank Centre.

Designed by David Kohn Architects and artist Fiona Banner, the Room’s ‘lower and upper decks should offer extraordinary views, by day and night, of a London panorama that stretches from Big Ben to St Paul’s cathedral.  Inside the boat is a beautifully crafted timber object, full of nooks and crannies to explore.  On arrival “aboard”, a nautical flag will be raised to signal occupation, with the visitors invited to fill in a log book.’

A Room for London is part of not for profit project by Living Architecture, describing itself as a ‘kind of contemporary Landmark Trust’.  Living Architecture was started by the writer Alain de Botton to provide holiday accomodation in modern architecture,   The aim is to ‘correct the fleeting way in which we experience modern architecture: sleeping in a place changes your perception’.

Other houses available to rent include The Balancing Barn in Suffolk by MVRVD Architects complete with glass floor in the overhang.
