This year’s St Margaret’s National Pilgrimage taking place on 11 June

The recently revived 2017 National Pilgrimage to Dunfermline in honour of St Margaret of Scotland will take place this year on Sunday 11 June with the procession leaving from the Glen Gates at 2pm. The procession, led by His Grace Archbishop Cushley and the Dunfermline Pipe Band, will process via Bridge Street, High Street and East Port to St Margaret’s RC Church for Mass at 3pm. When Coal was King: free history expo at Kingsgate Dunfermline

Opening today 17 May is When Coal Was King, a series of events in and around the Kingsgate Shopping Centre Dunfermline highlighting the importance mining played in the history of the town and the surrounding areas. Never Go Forwards Without First Looking Back: Aase Goldsmith remembered in Glenrothes

Borrowing a phrase from Bertold Brecht for its title, this retrospective of the much admired Danish born photographer Aase Goldsmith is currently on show at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes. Goldsmith, who died in 2015, lived in the Fife town from many years and her documentary work principally portrayed life and living in North East Fife at the turn of the millennium. Outlaw King: Chris Pine to play Robert the Bruce?

The legitimate reason for having a brooding photo of Chris Pine in a magazine devoted to Dunfermline and west Fife is that the Star Trek star seems likely to take on the role of Robert the Bruce – buried in Dunfermline and with his name emblazoned around the top of the Abbey – in Scottish director David Mackenzie’s latest film. Outlaw King will also feature Ben Foster who starred alongside
