The latest event in the Blueprint Dunfermline programme, which celebrates the built environment of Dunfermline and West Fife, gives Dunfermline residents the opportunity to put forward their ideas for structural changes to the town’s High Street. Jointly hosted by Avocado Sweet and local architectural firm Sam Foster Architects, the ‘architectural drop-in’ event, will take place on 7 and 8 October in the Community Gallery at the new Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries. Come along for a chance to play architect for the day and let your imaginations carve out a new and improved layout for the town centre.
There have been several public consultations like this before, most recently in 2010 as part of the Children’s EcoCity project, and the plans for these projects will be available during the event to see the history of development in the heart of Dunfermline. Sam, a Certified Passivhaus Designer with over ten years’ experience of ecological construction, says, ‘This time we want to really understand what would make the best enhancements to the town centre environment for today’s needs. Demolishing unsightly buildings? Introducing pocket parks? Extending existing structures or pedestrianising the East Port and Bridge Street? And who better to ask than those people who regularly use it?’
So if you are brimming with ideas make sure your voice is heard by visiting the Community Gallery in Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries on Saturday 7 October between 10am – 4pm and Sunday 8 October between 12 noon – 4pm.
Do what should have been done in the 80s before that monstrosity the Kings gate was built put a glass roof the length of Eastport down to Bridge st and the glen gates.
I asked about this event at Library today and no one knew anything about it. You may need to advertise more and make sure library staff are in the loop.
To aid with publicity, I’ve just sent an email to the Friends of Pilmuir Works email distribution list (~150 people) encouraging them to join you. I am unfortunately in Glasgow and unable to attend either day. Some of our members will be coming along and we are keen to work out how we support each other as we too are looking at regeneration of the town centre.
