China says cheers for Fife gins

Eden Mill distillery and brewery has signed a Chinese distribution deal that means their Fife gins will be sold in bars and hotels throughout China. The company, which is based just outside St Andrews, already has some experience of the Chinese market after launching their craft beer business there two years ago. All five gins are part of the export drive; oak, hop, love, original and golf and Eden Mill

Bankhead Farm Shop, Crombie, near Dunfermline, Fife

The Bankhead Farm Shop is popular with men according to the owner, Nancy Wishart. There’s no cafe, no gift shop and no supermarket crowds and no temptation for impulse buys, so, as Nancy points out, ‘you can’t overspend’. That’s because Bankhead, near the villages of Crombie and Cairneyhill in Fife, is very much a working farm, that just happens to have a shop, not a destination cafe or lifestyle shop

A winter walk from Leven to Largo (and back!)

A lovely walk for this time of year is to set out for Lower Largo from the Promenade at Leven. You can walk the whole way on the beach so it’s an easy, flat saunter of just a few miles. Once you’ve passed the links of Lundin Golf Club and reached the edge of Lower Largo, head into the village and enjoy what feels like a well deserved glass of

Howies Restaurants, Edinburgh celebrate 25 years

An Edinburgh stalwart Howies restaurant celebrates 25 years since the first one opened in 1990. Named after its founder David Howie Scott, who deliberately eschewed fine dining to create an informal bistro, the restaurant has been sold and bought back by the owner in the intervening years. During that time it has been a consistently popular venue for groups and office nights out which is probably down to a number

A Pint with a View, The Ship Inn, Limekilns, Fife

Where do you go if you want a pint with a nice view? The Ship Inn in the waterside village of Limekilns is worth considering for its views across the Forth of Firth. It may not have the dramatic proximity to the Forth Rail Bridge that the bars and restaurants in South Queensferry have but the village has attractive Scottish stone-built cottages plus the streets are less manic so it’s

Miniature Film Set Museum, Lyon

Before CGI was commonly used for movies, models of film sets were painstakingly created by hand and some of the sets were in miniature. Dan Ohlman, a former cabinet-maker of 15 years, opened the Palais de la Miniature in Lyon, France to display the miniature movie sets and other works by miniature artists.
