There are two notable things about the Shieldbank Coffee Shop near Saline in Fife; first of all, it is down a single track road where there is no passing trade, and, secondly, a white horse called Glen looks at you through an internal window while you drink your coffee.
The horses and the riding stables clearly pull in the customers to this remote and beautiful location near Saline in Fife. On the day Avocado Sweet visited there was even a tiny craft fair, probably another reason for the busy cafe. With a simple drinks and snack menu and an unadorned interior, this small cafe is probably not for the cafe cognoscenti, but then again, not many cafes can boast that their customers get to eyeball a horse while eating their scones. And, of course, you could ride a horse instead of looking at one; join a group lesson for £23 an hour or book a holiday riding day including lunch for £65. And, parents, here’s a good idea for birthdays; Shieldbank can host kids parties with riding.
Open seven days a week from 9.30am until 6pm and open late till 9pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
