The knitted monks of Culross – brilliant display in DCLG Community Gallery

The phone photos below don’t really do it justice, but the exhibition currently on show in the DCLG Community Gallery is not to be be missed. As with many great endeavours it is as bonkers as is it brilliant. Incredibly detailed, skilful, informative and packed with jaunty personality, it tells the story of 13th Century monastic life in Culross Abbey which is celebrating its 800th anniversary.   The exhibition was created

Everything you think you need: pop art expo opens at Fire Station Creative this week

Andrew Gerald Redman, who lives in Aberdour, is unveiling a cheering, pop art style exhibition at Dunfermline’s FSC this week. Having moved house once a year for the last twenty years, it seems Redman’s nomadic lifestyle has been the inspiration for the work: ‘Packing and unpacking boxes seems to have become quite a thing,’  says Andrew. As befits a serial mover, Andrew trained at several art colleges including Chesterfield College of Art,

Beautifully bleak and fragile jewellery by Beth Legg

Burntisland-based Beth Legg’s award winning jewellery reflects the ‘beautifully bleak and fragile nature of the Scottish coastal landscape’.  Legg has been making jewellery professionally since 2003 after graduating with a first class honours from Edinburgh College of Art.  The remote environment she comes from in the far north coast of Scotland has strongly influenced both the work she produces and the materials she uses.  Her studio has been compared to

Beautiful wooden tables and chopping boards made in Fife

Love the clever combination of these rough hewn, beautiful pieces of wood on top of spindly, retro legs – a look which manages to be rustic and urban at the same time.  The tables were made by Ian Davidson and his partner Jen Marshall for their small craft business, Country Collective, which they launched in their workshop near Oakley in Fife, late spring 2017.  The timber live edge designs also

Stephen Ratomski at DCL&G Community Gallery

It seems appropriate that the honour of the inaugural exhibition in the community gallery in the new Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries should go to Stephen Ratomski, long recognised as one of the Dunfermline’s most well known and admired artists. Ratomksi, whose work originates from observing the landscape and natural environment, hosted the well attended exhibition opening at the weekend and introduced a selection of his vivid and expansive works

Introducing the phenomenal Fife Art Collection at DCLG

The fruit, despite being more than a hundered years old, looks so fresh and dewy you feel you could pluck it from the bowl and take a bite. The delectable still life by Henri Fantin-Latour (above) is one of the small selection of pieces chosen to showcase Fife’s art collection in the newly opened DCLG. The inaugural art exhibition has been carefully curated to demonstrate the breadth, diversity and quality

Never Go Forwards Without First Looking Back: Aase Goldsmith remembered in Glenrothes

Borrowing a phrase from Bertold Brecht for its title, this retrospective of the much admired Danish born photographer Aase Goldsmith is currently on show at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes. Goldsmith, who died in 2015, lived in the Fife town from many years and her documentary work principally portrayed life and living in North East Fife at the turn of the millennium. The work on show here has been exhibited
