Handy for both Fife & Edinburgh, the dog-friendly Cramond Falls Cafe is five miles from the centre of capital and about 10 miles south of Dunfermline. Owner, Elaine Stuart has made sure there’s a welcome all year round – there’s lots of outdoor seating by the scenic River Almond for the warm weather and log burning stoves inside for the winter walkers. After seven years building up the custom at the Cramond Falls, Elaine is expanding the cafe into a new conservatory and changing the accomodation from a B&B to a self-catering cottage. Cramond itself is great for walking if you want to avoid hills – there’s the ‘sea’ view with beach walk along the Firth of Forth or the woody walk along to the Falls. When the tide is out you can walk out to Cramond Island for great views north of the Forth. If you’re contemplating a 5k run then the Cramond one is a great place to start – it’s totally flat. Get there for 9.30am on Saturday morning – you can register at Park Run. After that you’ll deserve a cheese scone.
